Tiny Crocheted Flowers

I needed something to make at Can Do Books Sit&Stitch on Thursday, so I rummaged around the bookshelves and found this lovely book.  I got it a few years ago when I just started crocheting.  It is a lovely book filled with beautiful things.  I wasn't able to make anything out of the book when I got it.  When I looked at it the other night I was rather excited that my crochet skills have come a long way and I could probably make everything in the book, and read the diagrams.  So I made one flower on Wednesday night and one on Thursday.  It is very fine crochet using No 8 perle cotton and a .75mm hook.  Not sure what I will do with them.

New Book

Yesterday was Sit & Stitch at Can Do Books and I picked up tis sweet book on miniature worlds and doll houses.  Stephanie had showed me this book a while ago and I had forgotten about it until yesterday.   There is a paper doll and dresses in the back to play with if you want.

Raffia Basketweaving

For the last few years, in attempt to not eat chocolate, I have been getting various other Easter presents like the Bobbin Lace course.  This year I signed up for an online Basketweaving course.  I have looked at basketweaving before and have a couple of books, but never went further because of materials, where to get the sticks and weavers.  This course uses raffia, something that is very easy to get.  My large bundles arrived yesterday.  It was a case of looking at the small 50g bundles at Spotlight and thinking that wouldn't go very far, and then finding 1kg bundles that were relatively quite cheap (and half the price of the store recommended by the course), so I bought two.

A Flock of Chickens

Finished the chickens last night.  The tallest one is about 28cm.  The size difference comes from thick/thin yarn and different hook sizes, and the chicken with legs is a different pattern to the roosting chicken.  The patterns are from Stip & Haak, the yarn from Fibresmith and  The Noble Fox Yarn Co.

New Doggie Mug

Found this very sweet dog mug in the city yesterday at Gewurzhaus, a spice shop.  The head is the handle.  Not sure how functional it would be with a hot tea in it, but it is very functional and fits right in to the craft room holding tools for easy access.

Chocolate Cake

Saw this cake on SBS Food Network last week by an American chef.  The frosting is marshmallow-like and rather sweet.  The cake has an unusual ingredient of mayonnaise.  Will probably make the cake again, but not the icing.

Glimmer of Hope

This was an azalea that was my Mum's.  Piers bonsaied it.  Several times it has looked like it was going to die, then it sprouts and starts all over again.  Once it comes back fully it will get an overhaul and a root trim.  Hopefully it will keep going,  It is a beautiful little tree.

Biscuits or Slice?

Felt like baking yesterday, couldn't decide what to make biscuits or slice, so I made both.  Chocolate Chip and Macadamia Nut Cookies and Chewy Chocolate Slice.

Little Chicken

This is a test run for a commission, working out size and colours.  It is a very sweet little chicken.  The pattern is from Stip&HAAK a Dutch designer.

Bunny Photo Shoot

Finished the little rabbit and took a few photos, quite a few in the end.  The pattern is by Claire Garland of Dot Pebbles.  The yarn is from Fibresmith, her own hand dyed.  I chose to use less colours than the patten, loved the soft grey.  You can't really see the pink in the ears in the photos.

A Rabbit

Made a start on the rabbit, although it isn't looking much like a rabbit at this stage.  I decided against the rusty brown with the grey (knitted  most of the head then pulled it all out), just going with the lovely soft hand dyed grey.

A Rabbit Maybe?

I pulled the hat apart again, really not happy with the tension.  And instead of starting it another time, I have put it aside for now.  What next?  Maybe this lovely rabbit by Claire Garland of Dot Pebbles.  I received it free through her newsletter, but you can buy it on Ravalry.  I got the yarns out last night and found I had to re-wrap the rusty brown.  Yes, I think I will make a rabbit.

Hat Knitting

Seem to be coming out of the flu fog.  Was able to knit the rest of the rib for the hat last night.  Much more knitting than I have been able to achieve in the last few days, although it looks like my tension could be better.

Still No Crafting

The flu is still around.  So let's look at what I was working on this time two years ago.  Durning March 2016 I went to Bobbin Lace Classes at the Embroider's Guild of Victoria.  There were good things and bad things about the course.  I haven't done any bobbin lace since.  Although I have collected all the materials and tools to do it, I borrowed bobbins and the pad for the classes.

No Crafting Yesterday

I have a flu and spent most of the day in bed.  I managed a couple of rows of knitting on the hat, but had no energy or concentration for any more.  So let's do a 'same time last year' thing.  I was making lots of rabbits, Luna Lapins for the Easter window at Can Do Books.  I really enjoyed making Luna and all the different wardrobes.

Starting Again

Had to pull the hat out and start again.  I haven't used the pattern before and was unsure about which size to make and couldn't tell until it was a decent way along to test.  It fitted, but on the small side.  So out it came, re-wrapped the ball and cast on.

Charts and a Hat

I finished the knitting charts I was working on and laminated them.  I discovered matt laminating pouches when I was learning bobbin lace.  They are a bit more expensive than the glossy knit, but much better to work with.
I also did a few more rows on the hat yesterday.

In The Garden

This lily recently popped up in our front yard.  Not sure I have seen it before, there have been other lilies but in different spots around the yard.  This is one of those ones that is just a stalk with flowers and no foliage.

Knitting Charts

Having a play yesterday colouring in graph paper for knitting charts.  It is funny how the simple thing of reversing the colours makes my brain work really hard.

Knitting a Hat

My head is all over the place at the moment and can't settle on working on one thing.  I was making trees, but I am bored with that and last night started a hat with one of the lovely green yarns.  On waking up this morning I'm not sure I will continue with the hat as it looks too small, we shall see.

Things You Forget

I received a text this morning from my sister-in-law saying how she enjoys her little fairy in a jar and could I make some more.  I have made a lot of things and put them into the lid of Moccona coffee jar lids, but I don't remember making one of Salley Mavor's little people and putting her in a jar lid.  And yes, I'm sure I can make more.

Green Yarn

A trip to Fibresmith yesterday and picked up some greens for more trees.  Something rather satisfying about buying yarn and then winding them into the centre-pull balls.

Made one tree last night in the darkest green.  Looks a little dull after working with variegated colours, but will be a nice contrast to the other lighter greens.

Little Weimaraner Doggie

The little dog is finished and playing very nicely with the other dogs.  All three dogs are patterns by Kerry Lord, Edward's Menagerie, Toft yarn.  I bought the kits at a craft show last year.  Kerry has a dog book coming out here in May.

Bookends & More

Had a lovely day yesterday on Mothers Day.  We went for a drive to Geelong for some lunch and a rummage around a 2nd Hand/Antiques place. ...
